New Residences Will be Designed to Provide State of the Art Amenities

MYSTIC, CONNECTICUT, June 11, 2026: StoneRidge Senior Living officials were joined by Senator Heather Somers, Representative Aundré Bumgardner, and Stonington First Selectman Bill Middleton, along with other local and community leaders to officially break ground for 14 new assisted living and 54 new independent living apartments today.

“We’re thrilled to begin this construction that will add new amenities and more residents for our StoneRidge Senior Living Community. As we lift our shovels today for this ceremonial groundbreaking, it’s a symbolic and exciting new beginning for the 90 residents who will be joining next year. We look forward to the talents, life stories and rich experiences that they will be bringing that will enhance our entire community,” said Pamela Klapproth, Executive Director.

The new building will feature 143,000 square-feet of common space with four new, distinctive dining venues, an art/maker space, a multipurpose room, theatre/reflections room, a woodworking workshop and more than 4,000 square feet of new wellness amenities to promote active, healthy living, featuring a fitness studio equipped with cardio and weightlifting equipment. The 14 assisted living apartments will be on the ground level for easy access. Independent living apartments will be on the second, third and fourth levels of the building.

The $72-million project will take approximately 18 months to complete with an anticipated move in date of December 2027 for Independent Living followed by Assisted Living. LCS of Des Moines, Iowa and SB&A Architects of Ames, Iowa, have designed the building to meet the design and amenity needs of future residents. KBE Building Corporation of Farmington will serve as construction project managers.

“Before the first ceremonial shovel was lifted today, we already have commitments for 96 percent of the apartments” remarked Scott Doherty, Vice President and Senior Director of Operations Management for LCS, the owner and manager of StoneRidge. “Area seniors are excited to become a part of our vibrant and engaging community.”
The JD Power U.S. Senior Living Study has ranked LCS number one in customer satisfaction among Independent Living Senior Living Communities for seven consecutive years. StoneRidge was recognized by U.S. News & World Report with the 2026 Best Independent Living, Best Continuing Care Retirement Community, Best Nursing Homes for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, and High Performing Food & Dining awards. Newsweek also awarded StoneRidge recognition as one of America’s Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities in 2026.

This construction project represents phase four of the original master plan of StoneRidge. Currently, there are nine attached structures representing 472,000 square feet of living and amenity space that is home to 364 residents on the 32-acre Mystic campus.
