Rotary Names StoneRidge’s Lewis Paul Harris Fellow

July 17, 2020:  Shannon Lewis, lead residency counselor at StoneRidge Senior Living Community, was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary of Mystic.

With this award, Lewis was recognized for her contributions to the local district through her enthusiastic participation in Rotary, following in the ideals of its founder.  Fellow member Nancy Lee MacMillan nominated Lewis for her tireless volunteerism, “She is thorough, direct, a good researcher and always ready to volunteer.”  Lewis was presented with a certificate and a chevron.

Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary in 1905.  At the time of his death, contributions from around the world were made to Rotary in Harris’ memory and the fellow program was established to support the work and ideals of the Rotary Foundation.

Lewis joins an esteemed group of more than one million recipients of this award, who include U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U. S. astronaut James Lovell, Un Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar and polio vaccine developer Jonas Salk.

“I am honored to have been recognized by this selfless group of volunteers.  I look forward to continuing to volunteer here in Mystic and, perhaps, make an impact in another country through Rotary at some point in the future.  Rotary’s reach is both local and global.  Each member, each day makes a positive change in their community and collectively we are improving the quality of life around the world,” said Lewis.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
