For residents with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, we offer a dedicated memory care neighborhood on-site at The Cottage at Avalon. Residents at The Cottage benefit from private suites, personalized care and specialized programs.

A high staff-to-resident ratio allows us to know each individual in our care on a personal level. We learn their life story and what brings them joy. It helps us connect with residents and recognize their needs when they have difficulty communicating them. Our personal approach turns frustrating moments into positive experiences, enhancing the quality of life for residents with patience, kindness and understanding.

Heartfelt CONNECTIONS – A Memory Care Program®

Each member of our memory care team is trained in the Heartfelt Connections program, a nationally recognized model built on a philosophy that what remains is more important than what’s been lost. We believe there’s a clear connection between the head and heart, and we use one to reach the other. Insights from each resident’s life story help us develop personalized activity programs. We focus on each person’s remaining abilities and celebrate their successes.

In addition to a variety of indoor activities at The Cottage, residents enjoy fresh air and sunshine outdoors in the sensory garden. It’s a place where residents can find purpose and peace simply by digging in the garden. They don’t even have to get their hands dirty. The sensory garden is a wonderful place to relax, reflect and improve your mood. Other benefits include decreased anxiety and aggression, reduced need for medication, better quality of sleep, improved social interactions and a better appetite.

An intimate, homelike setting.

The memory care neighborhood at The Cottage offers a safe, comfortable environment. Residents can decorate their private suites with mementos of their life, which helps them feel at home and reminds them where their suite is located. They can relax in well-appointed sitting rooms or socialize in the activity rooms. Meals are served on china with table linens. It all makes for a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

Memory Care Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike assisted living, independent living or skilled nursing, memory care is for older adults dealing with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. At StoneRidge, we have a specialized dementia care neighborhood on campus called The Cottage at Avalon. Highly trained staff provide the support residents need to do daily activities and engage with others in a safe, supportive and cheerful environment.

Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia cause problems with memory, using language, personality and thinking clearly. People with memory loss tend to forget things that just happened, have trouble making decisions, get confused by things they’ve seen and heard, and may have trouble sleeping. As the disease progresses, they may not recognize familiar people and places, they may wander, get irritated easily, or need help with daily activities such as eating, dressing and bathing. A physician can do tests to see if your loved one has dementia or some other condition that is causing similar symptoms.
