Chief Musician Charlie Suriyakham, clarinet, was born in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He began to teach himself to play the clarinet at age 12. He began his formal clarinet studies in 1993 with Debbie Kanter at California State University in Northridge. In 1995, he transferred to Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. He has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Classical Symphony Orchestra, the Encore Chamber Orchestra, and the American Youth Symphony in California.
He has received full scholarships to attend many music festivals, including the Texas Music Festival for four summers, the Rome Summer Music Festival, and the Las Vegas Music Festival. In 1998, he also won the concerto competition at Roosevelt University. MUC Suriyakham joined the United States Coast Guard Band in February 2005. Gabriel Landstedt is a multifaceted artist with experience performing in a wide array of genres for diverse sets of audiences. He has collaborated with choirs, orchestras and soloists throughout North America.
In 2021, he established the vocal-piano ensemble Keyprano Duo with his wife, soprano Allison Landstedt, and they were named Astral Artists semifinalists in 2021. In 2023, his poetry was set to music and premiered by the United States Coast Guard Band. Landstedt graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Music degree and Second Major in German from the University of New Mexico.
He has done additional studies at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and Manhattan School of Music. In 2020, he graduated with his Master of Music degree at the University of British Columbia, where he was a student of Mark Anderson. Landstedt is now the recipient of the UBC’s premier Four-Year Doctoral Fellowship, where he is pursuing a D.M.A. in Piano Performance.
