6 Senior Living Amenities That Make a Huge Difference

The reasons for seeking out independent living options are as varied as the people who do the seeking. Take you, for instance. Yes, you. The fact that you’re reading this particular blog post means senior living amenities are important to you. That’s great! They should be. After all, you want to choose a community that offers the amenities you need and want to enjoy your retirement.

We’re going to assume you’ve already done your research on why active seniors should move into independent living and what it means to have a full continuum of care at a Life Plan Community. And all the various other considerations that go into deciding how and where you will live out your retirement years.

So let’s dive right in. We love talking about senior living amenities, particularly those we offer right here at StoneRidge in beautiful Mystic, CT. Here are just a few of the luxury senior living amenities that can make your retirement the dream you’ve always hoped it could be:

1. Multiple dining venues
Americans spend a lot of time eating. In fact, according to one study by The Bureau of Labor Statistics, on average we spend almost two hours a day just eating and drinking. You can see how quickly we might become bored if our dining options are narrowed. That’s why it’s important to look for senior living communities that offer a variety of menu options and dining venues.

StoneRidge has three dining venues, each with its own unique atmosphere. Our main dining room is a delightful setting for enjoying an elegant lunch or dinner. The Mariner Grille offers a casual space with expansive views and an equally expansive menu. And you’ll love the continental breakfast and weekly Happy Hours at Jerry Browne Pub.

2. Heated saltwater pool
Saltwater pools are a better alternative for senior swimming activities. They’re gentler on the eyes, skin and hair than a traditional chlorinated pool. This is especially important as we age because our skin becomes thinner and more sensitive.

The heated indoor saltwater pool at StoneRidge is a great place to relax and enjoy some solo laps or even join a water aerobics class, no matter what the weather or time of year. If you’re serious about luxury senior living, insist on a saltwater pool.

3. Well-stocked library
Not only is reading an excellently entertaining hobby, it’s also great for helping to keep our minds sharp as we age. Joining a book club is another way to meet new friends who may share the same interests beyond literature.

The library here at StoneRidge is another one of our favorite places to hang out and enjoy some quiet reflection or fun conversations over a good book. It includes an extensive collection of books and periodicals as well as plenty of computers.

4. Gardens and walking trails
Walking is one of best low-impact ways for active seniors to stay in shape. And there’s no better place to walk than along a paved trail that meanders through beautiful gardens.

StoneRidge is set on 32 gorgeous acres with a safe paved walking and biking path that provides great exercise and stunning views of our rose garden, Japanese garden, pollinator garden and herb garden. There are also several gazebos and benches throughout the gardens, making it a perfect place to people-watch or enjoy the peace and quiet. For those of us with a little more pep in our step, we even have access to hiking trails in Avalonia Land Trust.

5. Woodworking shop
A fully-stocked woodworking shop is a great place to express our creativity and meet others who share our interest in turning a piece of wood into a work of art. There are all sorts of tools and materials available here in StoneRidge’s shop, so you can create anything from simple birdhouses to intricate furniture. All you need to bring is your imagination.

6. Plenty of room for dogs to roam
When it comes to vital senior living amenities, we mustn’t forget our furry friends. StoneRidge is a pet-friendly community and we offer two dog parks for the convenience of our four-legged residents. They’re great places to take our dogs (and ourselves) for a walk, play fetch or just socialize with other dog owners.

In addition to this sampling of six of the on-campus amenities, StoneRidge also offers a variety of activities and programs for residents to enjoy:

Outdoor concerts
We host a series of outdoor concerts throughout the summer.

Movie nights
Our movie nights take place on the lawn every few weeks.

Art classes
Art classes here include painting, drawing, pottery and more.

Walking clubs
Join one of several resident walking clubs for residents.

StoneRidge offers you the luxury senior living amenities you’re looking for.

We’ve just scratched the surface of the amenities and activities that make StoneRidge a great place to live. Not to mention all the amazing things to do nearby. We couldn’t imagine a more perfect place to retire. If you’d like to experience it for yourself, we make it easy to schedule your visit. We look forward to seeing you soon!
